All veterans (and their assistant companions etc.) are welcome to attend this free meal and enjoy the company of other people who have proudly served our country! Volunteers from the Middleboro Elks #1274 has a longstanding tradition of making and serving a free, delicious meal to local veterans, the third Thursday of each month at noon.
Many veterans from the greater Middleboro area enjoy attending the meal each month.
Several veterans who live at the VA in Brockton MA, also receive bus transportation to attend.
This month, a man brought his brother who recently moved into a nearby town and is a veteran suffering from PTSD and other medical issues, to attend the meal. They told Elks volunteers that they really enjoyed meeting other local veterans who understand what he is going through and that they will be back next month!
This month’s meal was a pork roast dinner, complete with scalloped potatoes, corn, gravy, applesauce and rolls. The meal was followed by a homemade dessert, made by members of the Elks Emblem Club. Several members of the Emblem Club, along with other volunteers, enjoy coming each month; to help serve the meal, drinks, and socialize with the veterans who
attend.
The Middleboro Elks Veterans Chairman, Dick Tinkham, would like to thank all of the faithful volunteers that come each month to help make the meal such an enjoyable tradition to recognize the men and women who have proudly served our country!

"On behalf of the members of the Middleboro Lodge of Elks, Welcome. We are a vital link in the fraternal chain of Lodges of the great and Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks, U.S.A. Our Lodge was Chartered by the Grand Lodge in 1912.
Elks 1274 Community Grants
We accomplish charitable objectives and fund projects that improve the quality of life in our local Elks communities, and in turn the Elks community as a whole.
We are the premier charitable and patriotic organization in the United States. With nearly, 800,000 Members working towards this greater goal, no wonder why the Elks are referred to as the Best People On Earth.
The Order spends more than $80,000,000 every year for benevolent, educational and patriotic community-minded programs in such fields as benefitting special needs children, sponsoring Elks National Foundation scholarships, scouting, athletic teams, veterans' works, a national "Hoop Shoot" free-throw contest involving more than 3 million children, physical and occupational therapy programs and patriotic programs.
The youth of our country have always been important to the Order. It is for this reason the Elks Drug Awareness Education Program was launched to warn primary grade students and their parents of the dangers in drug use. Additionally, every lodge observes June 14th as Flag Day, a tradition which the Elks began in 1907 and was later adopted by the Congress as an official observance.
We pledge never to forget our Veterans. Our programs help special needs children, and our nation’s youth with scholarships and drug prevention programs.
We offer countless opportunities for social activities and new friendships.
